The last stretch. We make sure we leave by eight this morning because we have another long day of driving ahead of us.
The drive through Tennessee and Kentucky is uneventful. We’re perfectly on schedule as we pull into the driveway of Jenny’s parents two minutes after twelve.
We say goodbye to Jenny, who will be leaving on another big adventure in three days, and continue through to Mark’s place in Columbus, where we pick up some dress clothes for Mark. The ten commandments signs along the highway are proof that we’re still close to the bible belt.
After Columbus we are on the home stretch. Another six states today: Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania (whose welcome sign we miss) and Maryland. We stop for a fast food dinner at one of the rest stops on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and then continue home.
We get home at 8:26, having driven a total of 2994.3 miles (4819 km)...
And I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!—Eric
